Eshpair-class Modular Space Station

Overview

A common example of space habitats formerly found throughout Imperial Space. The Eshpair station detailed below is actually the command version of a large family of different modules of 250 to 500 tons displacement. Whenever a world needed a cheap space station for freight handling, customs, refuelling or system defense, Imperial manufacturers could expeditiously provide the proper modules customly fitter to whatever the customers' needs were. Each module has two or more connectors that allowed them to be pieced together into larger space stations. These ranged from a single module of 500 tons, into the tens of thousands of tons in displacement.

The Command module is intended for a variety of roles ranging from static defense to traffic control to communications relay. Five small craft are fitted for emergency response or customs patrols. Normally a 150,000 km fixed array PEMS is the primary passive sensor, but during combat operations, a folding array can be deployed for longer range detection and tracking. Four 150 MJ laser turrets backed by a missle turret provide a means of deterrence against raiders and pirates. The module, like all Eshpair's, consists of a central dome for the bridge, cargo decks and small craft bays, surrounded by a ring of 3 or 4 smaller hemispherical modules for habitation, sensors and communication antennae. A 1050 m3 fuel compressor is fitted, providing 6428.57 m3 of refined H2 to passing ships. When the module is at full load its acceleration drops from 0G, to 0G.

The Eshpair is based upon the design in Adventure Ships 2 by J. Andrew Keith. Adapted from CT stats provided courtesy of Chris Keelan.
