Sans Souci-class Yacht

Overview

This is actually a conversion from MT 101 Vehicles. The craft's profile in that book, and name, seemed to suggest more sybaritic pleasures. In many ways this is the ultimate rich man's plaything, the must have for the well heeled entrepreneur, corporate executive, crime lord or oppressive dictator. The Sans Souci is the perfect ship for the person who wants to get away from it all, or for the well heeled wanderer who wants to see the universe for himself.

The vessel is very long ranged, boasting Jump-4 performance that allows it to bypass most areas of low stellar density. She has a compact fuel processing plant for frontier refueling, and significant cargo space for long duration missions away from a fixed base. A 30 ton Ship's Boat and a ten ton ATV makes her a versatile exploration craft. Four turret hardpoints can take a variety of offensive and defensive systems that can tackle most small sized threats. Finally she has internal accommodations that can handle up to fifty passengers in relative comfort, and most examples carry a five-ton displacement swimming pool/pond or simulated brook. Armed versions usually add a booster power plant to prevent energy shortfalls.

In external appearance, the class has an uncanny resemblance to old Solomani "middle eastern" oil lamps, such as those in stories about genies and other bric-a-brac; this is the source of its Imperial nickname: "Three Wishes" or "Wind Wish."
