Tethys-class Troop Transport

Overview

This vessel class is based upon a one-off design manufactured in Old Expanses Sector. The Tethys is used primarily by colonial navies to carry troop or personnel reinforcements at as low a cost as possible. This is accomplished by the use of the old Vilani "meat locker" idea, shoving a reinforced company's worth of troops into emergency low berths for short jaunts to an active deployment area. Otherwise the craft is rather mediocre in terms of armament and performance. Some versions swap out the low berths for sickbays or additional small craft stowage. Revival of the frozen troops is usually affected only upon arrival, as the ships small medical staff is primarily concerned with maintaining life support. A shuttle is provided for troop embarkation, and sufficient cargo space is provided for their gear and supplies.

About sixty of these ships are known to have survived Behind the Claw, and serve primarily with the RQS Auxiliary, though it is rumored that the Corelians have illegally copied the class for their own fleet and for possible sale to other Spinward States. The ship has a distinctive appearance: a "boom" needle comprising a narrow spire between a thick droopy nose at the front, and a substantial engineering section aft.
